Episode 95 – Presence – Be Where You Are
The roles we've agreed to take on at any given moment is crucial. And it shapes many things. It shapes our opinions, shapes our worldview; it shapes how we react. And because life is only a series of present moments, then being aware of that is important too. - Kellan Fluckiger

What you are about to learn:
What is presence?
There are many ways to define presence because there could be too many meanings for that. And some of us know that presence is like an energy field around us that we've been able to measure. It is an aura, and you can measure the electric field, the electromagnetic field, stuff like that around people, and your ability to create that to expand it to make it feel a certain way is all within your power. If a person is very negative, you can feel the negative energy. That is only to define or explain the type of presence there is, but what I want to talk about is…
Your own personal presence, in terms of where you are, your attention, your beingness. Your soul, the focus of your being was somewhere else, or maybe some When else. We spend most of our time not where we are.
Layers -
The first layer of presence is, where are you?
Where are you - this layer of presence is all that everyone talks about, when you do meditation courses and all that stuff. So the first layer of presence is where you are currently. And that means your mind is here, in the present time. Your body is present, and you're aware of all the things that are around you. And that piece, that layer of presence will be the first one that we unpack.
The second layer of presence is, what are you?
What are you? Utterly different because all of us take on different roles in life.Like your mind. Be a son or a daughter; you might be a husband or a wife. You might be a partner. You might be a brother; you might be a sister; you might be a business partner. You might be a volunteer in a community, you might be a bandleader, you might be a member of the chess club, you might be many things, all those roles, and then, of course, all have different importance are part of what you are.
The third layer of presence is who are you?
Who Are you? This is the one that's difficult for people to answer. And the reason it's difficult is that they haven't spent any time thinking about it often. And so immediately when I ask somebody who are you? They respond with a name, or a family name, or occupation, or, you know, if they've done some work internally, they'll respond with a few words that talk about some characteristics that they aspire to be. And all of those are little elements of who you are, but they are not the core, they are not the foundation of who you are.
My closing remarks
A person could say, Why do I need to think about all this crap, I don't need to do that, I need to live. Do what I think is right at the moment. And that is a way you can live. It is relatively superficial. And there's nothing wrong with trying to be a good person, moment to moment. For the most profound satisfaction. What I've discovered at least is, the more I'm present to all of those things the more fun I have, the more joy I have and guess what? I have those elements of the ultimate life. The more I am present, the more I enjoy, I create and enjoy the ultimate life which is, of course, the life of purpose, prosperity, and joy created by serving others with my divine gifts. Are you with your divine gift?
And so I can tell you as we explore this further and this what we did today and then next time, you'll see how very much presence affects your ability to create your ultimate life.
Key Takeaways:
It is not sufficient to do something else at the same time. Distracted driving is a perfect example. You're on the phone talking, and you're driving, so you crash because you are not paying attention to the task that you’re doing because your presence is somewhere else. You are not present at that time. - Kellan Fluckiger
We have agreed to do, the roles we've decided to take on at any given moment is really important. And it shapes a lot of things. It shapes our opinions, shapes our worldview; it shapes how we react. And because life is only a series of present moments, then being aware of that is important too. - Kellan Fluckiger
How to do this is the last piece. And again, it takes practice. But before you practice, it takes a choice. - Kellan Fluckiger
